Kleer Clears Up Myths About Using PVC Trimboard
Five Reasons to “Think Beyond Wood”
WESTFIELD, MA, January 13, 2005 – While the emergence of new technologies and newly engineered building materials makes an impact on the home building industry, it also forces builders to face the daunting task of keeping current with trends, techniques and valuable “how-to” information. With demand expected to grow by 12% annually for the next three years* in the composite and plastic lumber industry, Kleer has made education part of its mission and aims to debunk five significant myths about the use and installation of PVC trimboard.
Myth # 1 – Special Tools Are Required
Whether cutting, drilling or machining Kleer™ Cellular PVC Trimboard, there are no special tools required. It’s easy to cut Kleer™ using a circular, reciprocating, band, table or multiple-blade gang rip saw that feature blades designed for cutting wood or plastic.
Drilling is also easy when using any twist-type drill bit recommended for metal drilling. It’s important to use sharp bits to avoid excessive heat buildup but, otherwise, drilling is fast and easy.
Kleer™ can be shaped by using most standardized milling machinery and it can be routed with virtually any type of equipment used to fabricate wood. Multi-fluted carbide bits produce the best results.
Myth #2 – Power Nailing Can Be Challenging
Unlike competitive products within this category, the structure and density of Kleer™ does not allow for “blow out” when power nailing. In fact, power nailers are highly recommended to fasten Kleer™ product.
Myth #3 – Expansion And Contraction Is Difficult to Control
Expansion and contraction are part and parcel of PVC building materials, but product movement can be easily managed with a little consideration of prevailing temperatures and correct nailing during installation.
Myth #4 – PVC Trimboard Must Be Painted
With built in UV-inhibitors, Kleer™ does not require painting to maintain its superior resistance to weather. However, in order to match a desired color, Kleer™ can be painted with a high-quality 100% acrylic latex paint. Acrylic paints are optimal because they expand and contract with the board to maintain cohesion.
Myth #5 – PVC Trimboard Is Expensive
Kleer™ generally reduces costs significantly over time. The product saves time and money on the jobsite with its 18’ and 20’ lengths that are easy to use in a wide variety of applications. Kleer™ eliminates costly and time-consuming callbacks associated with imperfections. For added insurance, Kleer™ is backed by the industry’s only lifetime warranty further helping to eliminate maintenance costs.
