  1. Why is Kleer Decking better than wood decking?
    1. Kleer Decking will not split, splinter, rot or suffer structural damage from termites or fungal decay.  It never needs to be stained or painted and is highly resistant to scratching, staining and fading.
  2. Why is Kleer Decking better than wood-plastic composite decking?
    1. Kleer Decking is a synthetic decking product that does not contain any organic material that can promote the growth of mold or mildew.  It is also more scratch, stain and fade resistant than most wood-plastic composite materials and up to 40% lighter in weight.
  3. What is the difference between the Coastal Series and Sierra Series?
    1. All Kleer Decking products have fully encapsulated 100% cellular PVC cores.  The Coastal Series has a PVC capstock that is highly resistant to scratching and staining.  The Sierra Series uses a different polymer capstock that is as scratch and stain resistant but offers additional fade resistance for darker, richer colors.
  4. How heavy is Kleer Decking?
    1. Kleer Decking weighs approximately 1.6 pounds per lineal foot.
  5. Can Kleer Decking be ripped to a narrower width with a saw?
    1. Yes, Kleer Decking can be ripped to a narrower width using a saw.  For best results, use a blade with at least 6 carbide teeth per inch.
  6. Can Kleer Decking be glued or caulked?
    1. It is not recommended that Kleer Decking be glued or caulked.
  7. What is the proper joist spacing for Kleer Decking?
    1. For most installations, Kleer Decking can be installed over standard 16” on-center joists.  For the best performance, or for herringbone or commercial installations, Kleer Decking should be installed over 12” on-center joists.
  8. Can I install Kleer Decking on top of existing deck boards?
    1. No, it is not recommended that Kleer Decking be installed over existing deck boards.
  9. Does the orientation of the embossed wood grain pattern matter?
    1. Yes, light reflects differently depending on the orientation of the embossed wood grain pattern so care should be taken during installation to orient the grain for the desired finished look.
  10. Can I install Kleer Decking with the underside facing up?
    1. No.  Kleer Decking is designed to be installed with the embossed wood grain surface facing up. 
  11. Will Kleer Decking expand and contract with changes in temperature?
    1. Yes, Kleer Decking will expand and contract with changes in temperature.  Please refer to the Kleer Decking Installation and Care Guide for proper spacing of deck boards during installation.
  12. Are there special requirements for using Kleer Decking as stair treads?
    1. Yes, there are special requirements when using Kleer Decking as stair treads.  Please refer to the Kleer Decking Installation and Care Guide for the different installation methods.
  13. What should I use to clean my Kleer Decking?
    1. It is recommended that you wash Kleer Decking periodically with ordinary household cleaning products to remove stains, dirt and debris.
  14. Can Kleer Decking be power washed?
    1. Power washing is not required, however, if you choose to do so, Kleer decking may be power washed at no higher than 1100 psi with a fan tip nozzle held at least 12” from the surface.
  15. Is there anything I should avoid leaving on top of my Kleer Decking for extended periods of time?
    1. Some products, such as rubber or vinyl mats, planters, etc or vinyl pool toys, can cause a reaction that causes discoloration of Kleer Decking.  These flexible vinyl or rubber products should not be used on Kleer Decking.
